Kaweco has launched two vegan alternatives to its leather eco pouches for its Sport and Liliput pen ranges. These pouches have been crafted using European natural materials: apple leather and cork.
An increasing number of people are giving up animal products, not just food, but for all products made with animal ingredients. Kaweco’s new vegan pouches are an alternative to its leather pouches and are easy to identify, as both are labelled vegan on the back – printed on the cork pouches and embossed on the apple leather pouches.
Apple leather is based on pomace, which is a waste product from the apple juice production. The apple leather pouch has the classic Kaweco look and feel and is no way inferior to traditional genuine leather. While the apple leather is robust and water-repellent, the writing instruments are protected from scratches and damage by a soft inner lining made of cotton and polyester.
Practical and elegant at the same time, cork leather (or cork textile) has similar properties to leather, so is therefore a great animal-free alternative to Kaweco’s conventional leather pouches. While the cork’s tear resistance makes the pouch robust and durable, the velvety soft feel of the textile inside protects the writing instruments from scratches and damage. As cork is a natural material and is obtained from the bark of trees, the unique textures and grains make each pouch one of a kind.
Both pouches are available for either one or two pens, and for Kaweco Sport or Kaweco Liliput pens.
